Why GHG Calculation Matters
You cannot reduce what you have not measured. A GHG inventory is the foundation for every major sustainability framework - BRSR, CSRD, CDP, and SBTi all require rigorous, auditable emissions data. Without an accurate baseline, reduction targets are guesswork, carbon credits are questionable, and compliance disclosures lack credibility.
O₂log builds GHG Protocol-aligned emissions inventories that hold up under third-party verification. Every emission factor is documented. Every calculation is traceable. Every number connects to a source document. Whether you are preparing for your first carbon footprint assessment or strengthening an existing inventory, we deliver the precision that auditors expect.
Scope 1, 2 & 3 Breakdown
The GHG Protocol categorizes emissions into three scopes. Understanding which activities fall into each scope is essential for a complete inventory. Read our detailed guide: Scope 1, 2, 3 Emissions Explained.
Scope 1 - Direct Emissions
Emissions from owned or controlled sources: fuel combustion in boilers and furnaces, company vehicles, process emissions, and fugitive releases (refrigerants, gas leaks).
Scope 2 - Energy Indirect
Emissions from purchased electricity, steam, heating, and cooling. Calculated using both location-based and market-based methods per GHG Protocol Scope 2 Guidance.
Scope 3 - Value Chain
All other indirect emissions: purchased goods & services, transportation, business travel, employee commuting, waste disposal, and end-of-life treatment of sold products.
Scope 1, 2, 3 guide →Our Methodology
We follow the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard - the most widely used international accounting framework for greenhouse gas emissions. Our approach is built around five principles: relevance, completeness, consistency, transparency, and accuracy.

Reporting & Roadmap
We use India-specific emission factors from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) grid factors, IPCC guidelines, and industry-specific databases. For multinational operations, we apply country-level factors from IEA and DEFRA where appropriate.
What You Get
Baseline Emissions Report
Complete GHG inventory with emissions quantified by scope, source category, facility, and gas type (CO₂, CH₄, N₂O, HFCs). Fully documented methodology and assumptions.
Intensity Metrics
Emissions intensity ratios per unit of revenue, production, employee, or floor area - enabling meaningful year-over-year comparisons and sector benchmarking.
Reduction Roadmap
Prioritized list of emission reduction opportunities with estimated abatement potential, implementation cost, and payback period. Aligned with SBTi pathways where applicable.
Disclosure-Ready Data
Data formatted for direct use in BRSR, CDP, CSRD, and SBTi submissions. No re-calculation needed when filing season arrives.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a GHG inventory?
A GHG inventory is a systematic accounting of all greenhouse gas emissions produced by your organization over a defined period. It quantifies emissions across Scope 1, 2, and 3 categories using the GHG Protocol methodology, providing a comprehensive carbon footprint baseline for compliance, reduction planning, and stakeholder reporting.
How long does a GHG calculation take?
Typically 6-10 weeks depending on complexity. Single-site operations with good data availability can be completed in 4-6 weeks. Multi-site or multi-country inventories with Scope 3 analysis may require 10-14 weeks. Data collection is usually the most time-intensive phase.
Which scopes do you cover?
All three. Scope 1 includes direct emissions from owned sources. Scope 2 covers indirect emissions from purchased electricity, steam, and cooling. Scope 3 accounts for value chain emissions including purchased goods, transportation, business travel, employee commuting, and end-of-life treatment of products.
How is this different from the carbon calculator?
Our free carbon calculator provides a quick directional estimate based on limited inputs. A full GHG inventory is a rigorous, auditable assessment using actual operational data, verified emission factors, and GHG Protocol methodology. The inventory produces a baseline report suitable for BRSR, CSRD, CDP, and SBTi submissions.
